I went out to Company drill, but we
were called to get ready for
inspection by Col. Lee. In the afternoon I read
and wrote some. We got good news from Rose-
ecrancz to-night and also the Presidents emanci-
pation proclamation. Thank God for the good
news, and may His blessing rest upon our efforts
for freedom and right. John Simonds was detailed
by the Quartermaster
