1863 January 23 camp across the Rappahannock from Fredericksburg

[from the diary of the Rev. Francis E. Butler, chaplain of the 25th New Jersey]

Fri 23.  Cloudy, but milder;  no orders yet, for a week
we have had rations cooked & been ready to move at
an hours notice.  Still unwell – Paymaster came!!
