1862 April 26 before Yorktown, Va.

[from the diary of Samuel Johnson of the 1st Massachusetts Independent Light Battery]

                       April 26th

To day every thing inside our lines is very
quiet.  Last night two companies of the 1st
Mass Inf’t. Reg’t. had a sharp skirmish
with the Johnnies, losing five killed,
and several wounded.  Cool and very
stormy to day.
