1861 October 3

[from the diary of Francis G. Hale, Co. F, 34t Ohio Zouaves]

I have a sever cold this
mirning so I cannot
get a long very well
but I have to do my
duty in the hospittal
though I will get out
though I gess to day
there is 20 in the
hospital this morning
with the measels
some are a bout well
some just takeing them
There was a fellow shot
him self through
the hand by an aci
-dental discharg of a
revolver this makes
two that have been
shot in campe
the last one fell out
of an apple tree and
shot himself through
the left hand one of the
bones are broken
the bone of the middle
handfinger
another man shot
his hand just now
in the middle finger
with a gun he slipt
an fell and discharged
his gun through his hand
We got orders this after
noon about 4 o clock
to pullup and move
we moved down the
river about a mile
and a half to camp
Pieatt it is on a hill
side a pretty good place
for stone we got
here at dark struck
our tents and now
goin to roost.
