1861 Octr 14 Home [Front Royal, Va.]

Dear Richard [Bayly Buck]

Only time for a line or two.
We were quite disappointed at
not hearing from you last night

It is now tea time, and I will
go down hoping to get some news
from you this evening. The Cars don't
get in 'til 8 or later; yet I can't
repress my anxiety about you all,
abut ride down and return often
that late hour.

Mr Thomas Kindly offers to take down
something for you, and we will
get you up a basket--Look out
for it then--What do you say to some
Corn Potatoes & Tomatoes? Had a
letter yesterday from Walter!!!! All well
at his camp. You should have
Kept the Coat, 'til I send you another.
Had you not better have it again?

I am making great efforts to get

you one but I am not a
Fortune &c I cant tell when you
will get it, if at all. I have
bought the goods these several times
but the sharks[?] have seized it as
often. I'll try once more, and
the next time will take it home
at once.

Remember me to all the boys. Tell
Amos to try to get off for a few
days--and come up. He must come

I send you some papers--Do
Seize every opportunity for improve-
ment--Lay up at least one
useful fact each day.

All send love and send
messages besides Hastily
Very Affectionately
M. B. Buck
