1861 October 12 Baltimore

Dear Brother and
Sister I received your
letter yesterday and was
glad to hear from you
but had got most tird
looking for a letter I am
as well as comon and hope
this will find you the
same my health has
ben very good since I
left home I got a letter
from home yesterday
they wer all well there
I have ben at work
repairing the army
wagons for the last
month and there is
a fare prospect that
I shal have a winters
work on them they

are building a fortifica-
tion they will probably
get ready to mount
the canon in two or
three weeks it will
when completed be the
most important
fortification there
is a bout baltimore
as it is so high that
it will command
every point within
range you are a little late
a bout goin to see Chandler
as he was in Baltimore
when your letter was maled
I saw him yesterday his
rigament is camped within
about 3/4 of a mile from ours
but probaly will move
soon as I understand they
are under maching order

there is an expidition started
to day from Anapolis as
I am enformed to consist
of fifty thousand men
destination unknown the
eighth and ninth Maine
rigaments is in the expidit-
tion there is no doubt but
there will very soon be a
blow struck and if sucsessful
will nock secession higher
than a burnt boot there
is a great manny sick in the
rigament now there is as
many as 10 or 15 sick in our
company the measles is in
the rigament that is the
cause of so many being
sick at present we have
a meeting here once every
sunday there is to be a
prair meeting this evening

more at present and I
guess you will make up
your mind that i have
writen enough by the
time you read this love
