[From the diary of Francis G. Hale of the 34th Ohio Zouaves]

we got a drove of
secech cattle last
night they was to
be sent to the secech
army when they was
fat they are all
young cattle and
will be soone fat
if well fed
I had to go up the
creeke to get a cooked
ducked for my sick
boy when I got
it I started for
the hospital I gave
the sick their dinner
they are getting well
Just now they are
going to camp soon
Bill Hosier came
to camp this morning
he was sirprized
to find Dick so sick
I made some aquaint
ance with the girl
that cooked the
duck for me she
asked me for to stay
for dinner but i did not
