[from the diary of Samuel Johnson of the 1st Massachusetts Independent Light Battery]
March 15th 1862
Were turned out at six. A. M.
Harnessed up at seven, and at 8 were
again in motion. At three P. M after
a very slow march through rain and
mud, we arrived at our old encamp-
-ment on the Leesburg Turnpike. I
never knew it to rain harder than it
has to day.
