1862 March 24

[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F, 25th Massachusetts Infantry]
Monday
March 24
Slept very well during the night
and went on at six this morning
The negro gave me some good breakfast of
tea and short cake. This afternoon read
and sung and fiddled and played chess
and backgammon. Received a letter from
home this evening. Have felt very pleasant
to day. Drilled a little this afternoon.
