1862 November 19 Chapel Hill, N.C.

[from the diary of Eliza Oswald Hill,  refugee from Wilmington, N/C.]

Wednesday  The weather has been very bad all the week constant
rain.  Eliza has arrived took us all by surprize and I had just seen
a dispatch from Jr. Ryan who was escorting her up that there had
been a collision on the road & they had to remain all night at Golds
boro'-Comey Phillips came with her but Liz remained at Enfield
She brought me the pleasant news that Noah had gone to Tom
& the unpleasant news that the large blanket, drawers & other
things sent by Express to Enfield for him to take to Tom-
never reached there so he left without-=Tis a sad disappoint
-ment to me--& will be to Tom--Eliza is greatly disappointed
at finding Mrs [Loeb?] has left Fayetteville-& gone we cant
find where--Poor Child never was "bride elect" so worried be-
fore-& never did so many disappointments come to anyone.
