1862 November 18 New Bern, N.C.

[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F., 25th Massachusetts]

Tuesday
Nov 18
Boiled my three black potatoes and
John Simonds, George Lowe and I had them for breakfast
Had a company drill this forenoon.  I read papers
till dinner. After dinner washed my shirts and
drawers and read some.  This evening went with
George to give the countersign to the pickets.
It was quite a walk to the furthest.
