[from the diary of Anne Madison Willis Ambler]
Read hastily & was not profited--I
was too busy thinking of how much
more agreeable it would be to go down
& hear Patty talk--Just as I was getting
my work Colonel Baylor came-so we
all listened to him til Pa came in
& soon Dr. Blackburn called.
After dinner he walked up to look
at the carriage & again offered 480D
Confederate money-I refused it as I had
said I would take that in Va. notes. & 500 Confed-
So he pulled out the $500 to pay & Pa said
that he could not take it unless he could
next day part of
get rid of it ^ (by paying ^ a debt in the bank next
day) & giving me Va money if I should need
it. I consented & Pa took the money-

Think I will go to Town if well enough
though I feel badly tonight.
