[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F., 25th Massachusetts]

Tuesday
Oct 21

Quite a cool night last night. We had
a short drill this forenooon. It was cool and
cloudy this forenoon and pleasant this afternoon
Have not felt very well to day. Read "Lawrence Mun
roe["] this afternoon an Cultivators this evening and
talked with Uncle Sam about farming. He thinks
farming will pay a very fair profit even if a man
does not work very hard, and if I get home safe
by the blessing of God, I think I shall try it.
