1862 October 16 on road to western Virginia
[from the diary of James Dinsmore Templeton, musician and private in the 23rd Ohio]
Thursday, Oct. 16, 1862
Was up all night. Could
not sleep for Cold. got up
& started fire about 3 Oclock
this morning about 8 Oclock
got off the cars and marched
crossing the river or creek
by three covered Bridges
Went about a mile to a
fine camping ground in
a valley by the Creek
The Country around looks
better than my old impression
led me to suppose it to be
got a small mess of Potatoes &
onions this evening also [?]
rec'd this evening a
Letter from Jennie Langan
the first mail we have
had for some time
