1862 October 1 Louisville

[from the diary of Captain William F. Hunter, Co. B., 97th Ohio]


   Oct. 1st. ‘62
Three days rations
cooked & in haversacks;
ready for a long
march “Dixie-ward”.
We were ordered to be
ready to march at 6
A.M., but it is now
8, & we have not yet
moved. Started at
about 10 A.M. & march-
ed between 9 & 10 miles,
where we encamped
for the night, in
an open field. We
are now in 21st brigade,        
Gen’l. Woods’ division.
