[from the diary of Anne Madison Willis Ambler]
Pa & I rode to town, heard that
Jackson had crossed the river &
was before Harpers Ferry & it would
probably surrender without a blow--
Pa hopes that he may get all of his
servants there--The people in Town
are in good spirits just now but
seem to fear that we will soon be
left to the Yankees again.
