1862 September 12 camp near New Bern, N.C.

Friday
Sept 12

The steamer Hayes came in tonight
bringing a mail.  I got nothing and
there is not much news from Virginia.
Phineas got a box from home.  I wrote a letter
for Kinsman.  Had a company drill this afternoon.
Tattoo was changed to 7.30 after which time the
men are required to keep in their tents on
account of the climate.  Read the papers a little
while and then went to bed in good season.
Have thought considerable of God and hope
that He will direct me in His ways through
my savior Jesus Christ.
