[from the diary of James Dinsmore Templeton, musician and private in the 23rd Ohio]

Lay part of the
night very cold could
not sleep
Learned this forenoon
that Crook would
discharge mustering
out at soon as our
papers were made
out--from this it
appears that some
deception has been
practiced
We were sent for
about 2 Oclock this
afternoon and were
mustered out by
Capt Crook 4th Inf
USA Regulars
are having our paper
made out this eve
Clear fine day
