1862 September 16 Lynchburg, Va.

Tuesday 16. Robert got off at an early
hour--No news from the army
of invasion. Loring has repulsed
the enemy in the Vally of Kanawha
and taken large quantities of their
arms. Dr. Green, wife & daughter
& his mother in law Mrs Slaughter
dined with us, One of the hottest
days of the season.
