Dear Sarah-
On Friday mor-
ning last after the bat-
talion was drawn up in
line preparatory to starting
out for its usual semi-
monthly tour of picket
duty, Your letter was
handed me, but I was
of course compelled
to defer the reply.
Yesterday we returned
to camp without having
met with any accident
or incident by “flood
or by field”, and to
day I avail myself
of a favorable moment
to answer you.
