1862 June 10 Staunton, Va.

[from the diary of Joseph A. Waddell, civilian employee of the Quartermaster Dept.]

Tuesday night, June 10, 1862.
The town very quiet to-day — very few rumors +
nothing of importance. Nothing doing, apparently, by
the armies near Port Republic. Jackson pursued
Shields for 10 or 12 miles down the river, yester-
day evening — It is now said that only 300 or 400
prisoners were taken. Our loss in killed seems to
have been small. Two regiments had arrived at Charlottes-
ville, coming to reinforce Jackson.
