1862 June 26 Staunton, Va.

[from the diary of Joseph Addison Waddell,  civilian employee of the Quartermaster Dept.]

Thursday evening, June 26, 1862.
The cars came in Tuesday evening last, and
have yesterday and to-day, bringing Richmond
mails by way of Lynchburg. No news of spec-
ial interest from any quarter. Jackson's
army said to be at Beaver Dam or the Junc-
tion, at the last advices. Staunton has been per-
fectly quiet. We have several thousand cav-
alry down the Valley, under Brig. Gen. Rob-
ertson (or Robinson), who has taken Asby's
place. No other troops.
