1862 May 13
[from the diary of Lt. John Tyler of the Letcher Artillery]
May 13th My birthday. Excessively
hot, as usual on my birthdays. Had
a Company drill this morning of which
I took charge, also a drill of non-
commissioned officers later in the
day. In afternoon had a battery drill
very dusty, and disagreable[sic], of course
in consequence. Wrote a letter to
Florrie this evening. Rec-d a letter
from Jennie also, late in the evening.
