My dear Wife I recd your note
last night by Mr
Pollock and am
sorely grieved at your
disappoint
ment. We have cooked 3 days
rations left our wagons here
& the army is marching
towards
Front Royal. of course we are
to return here, but in what
direction we will then go
I cant say. You had better
remain with Mother for if
we go east I will have
no opportunity to see you
but I will write to you
on my return here. I will
send this by the man who
brings my saddle. I am I hope
[page 2]
a little better of my
diahrheu [sic]
Jackson is killing up all
my men I have only half
of them this morning fit
for duty. None of us expect
a fight on this 3 days march
though we may be disappointed
I have no time to write
more.
Affectionately
