May 22nd

To day Gen Bartletts brigade. a squadron
of the 1st N. Y. Cavalry, a section of battery
D, 2nd U.S. and one of our batteries were sent
out to the Chickahominy on a reconnoisance
The cavalry lost two men.  During the
afternoon a very heavy thunder shower
came up, and for one hour the rain
fell in a perfect torrent.  Warm and
