1862 May 16 between Yorktown and Richmond, Va.
[from the diary of Lt. John Tyler of the Letcher Artillery]
May 16th Stopped raining this morning, but
still cloudy & very warm. divided our
mess this morning. To day am battery off-
-icer of day. Drilled N. C. officers this morning
& company in afternoon. At teatime heard
several volleys of musketry, which was said
to be fireing of pickets in a skirmish on our
right.
