1862 May 10 New Bern, N.C.
[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F, 25th Massachusetts]
Saturday
May 10
Had a very good night on guard
Kept a pretty sharp lookout on
the woods back of the camp, as I was on
rising ground and the moon shone
bright, so that I was a pretty good mark
for a rebel, if there had been any in
the woods, but there were none. Lay in the
tent pretty much all day and read some.
