1861 November 3

[from the diary of Eugene M. Cox of the 46th Virginia]

3 P.M. It still continues to rain which makes our Sabbath a gloomy day--In one tent near mine I hear at this moment, the voice of a man of God preaching Christ and at another tent near by I hear gamblers cursing and swearing and disputing about their wicked game regardless of the sanctity of the Sabbath--p P.M. Still rains a little--have some signs of clear weather.
