1861 November 13

[from the diary of James Dinsmore Templeton of the 23rd Ohio]

Left Camp Ewing quite early this morning
I was quite sice Started on with Benton
Crossed the New River at its mouth
marched about 2 miles from the River
where we camped in an open field had a
good Bed of straw. scenery below Tomp
kins Farm fery magnificent, pleasant partly clear
