1861 November 3

[from the diary of Francis G. Hale, Co. F, of the 34th Ohio Zouaves]

It rained all most all day
to day and was awful cold
so we could not drill nor
ceepe warm but we weathere
it through there is a good
many rebels a bout here
there has a bou fify com
in and took the oath
but they will not ceepe it
longer than they can
get a good canch to
pop one of us over and
run the often fire
at us as we go long they
know all a bout our
camp where our pickets
are posted where they can
get in at and not be seene
by them they was
a going to fire on them one night.
