[from the diary of James Dinsmore Templeton, private and musician in the 23rd Ohio]

Played as usual practiced
this forenoon considerable cannonading
down the river. Were ordered to
draw three days rations. Sent letter
to Aunt Cook. Received packeag with
shirts & drawers also Gloves, Bony Seaman
died this evening. Rained this afternoon.
