1862 December 4 near Nashville, Tenn.

[from the diary of Captain William F. Hunter, Co. B., 97th Ohio]

     Dec. 4th,’62.
Clear but cool to-
day.
At 9 A.M. form-
ed the line for
review by Gen’l

Rosecrans; moved
out to the W. of the
Camp about a mile;
review continued
until 3 P.M.
Our whole division
was reviewed.
It was the grand-
est military dis-
play I ever witnessed.
Genl’ Rosecrans a
man of medium
size, dark hair, beard
& mustache. Apparently,
of a pleasant, affable
disposition.
