[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F, 25th Massachusetts]
Wednesday
Dec 10
We have been getting ready and pack-
ing up all day. In God do I trust for
safety and His will be done. It is said that there
is a large force going. It is not fully certain that
we shall go yet. This evening a company of the
eighth came up to relieve us from picket, so I
suppose we shall go. George and I prayed to night
and placed ourselves in the protecting hand of God
and in His name do we ask victory and safety if
consistent with His will
