three weeks. called home by telegram on account of
the illness of his father

Dec 19 Gave Messrs T M. Jones & Jno D Moncure leave of absence
until the 31st of December,--Messrs A W Wallace & Jas A
Garlick until the 30th & Mr Frs K Meade until the 28th Decr

[These were probably Christmas leaves. The amount of time granted was determined by the distance home and the number of travel days involved.]
