1861 December 11

[from the diary of Francis G. Hale of the 34th Ohio Zouaves

I feele a goodele
better to day I could
have returned to duty by
the Doctor but I did
not go on duty at
dress parade in the
evening there was
a fellow brought in
a load of chickens
and turkeys the
boys got a couple of
chickens I got a piece
[word erased] & it was very
good it made me
think of home
dear dearly loved home
how often have I thought
and dreamed of the
dear old spot I
once called home.
