1861 Dec[ember] 1 Camp Franklin Va

Dear parents.

I made a mistake
the last time I wrote to you
I did not put that marraige
card in the letter as I thought
and I guess I will send it
this time. I should like to
know if that paper reached
you containing an account of
the great review ans all
the news you can think
of. Every thing remaines
quiet here with the exception
of a few troops moving over

[page 2]
this side of the Potomac there
is some troops encamped at
Springfield Station that came
over a few days ago some of
the men think we are going
to advance twords Mannssas
Junction soon but I do not
see any signs of it yet. We
expect to moove into our log
cabins too to morrow that we
have been fixing up for winter
I believe I wrote to you about
it. We have just recieved
our new over coats. I shall
send my old one home with
some other things soon I will
write and let you know when

[page 3]
I send them. I have not eat all
of my thanksgiving yet I gave
some to all of my tents crew
and some others to tatste of
and we had a good time
over it Phillipps one of my tents
crew had a box of victules sent
to him and we all had a part
of it. I tell you we have had
a good time for two weeks
past. We have had some cold
days out here but we have
not seen any snow yet one
morning the ground was very
white but I think it was all
frost. We are all well at present
A young man died by the name of

[page 4]
Newell Eld[er?]. Newell's son I
suppose he did live in Gray
he lives in Gorham now, he
hed had typhoid fever

I have no news to write

Yours in haste
