[From the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F. 25th Massachusetts]

Feb 22 Rainy to day so we did not
go. Read some in an old Harpers
Magazine and helped fix up the bunk.
Heard to day that Floyd, Pillow and Johnson
and fifteen thousand prisoners were taken
in Tennessee. Have felt better to day. They
say now that were[sic] are going to have
another battle Monday on the main land
Wrote a letter to Jennie this evening.
